2014年5月，V神第一次来中国，此行的目的被认为是宣传以太坊，为之后的以太币预售探路。

虽然爱西欧募集了大量的比特币，但2014年末，比特币暴跌却让以太坊基金会陷入困境，很多人都担心它能否挺过财务崩溃的难关。
